The Third Movement In The Story: Crisis
In Genesis chapter 3 the grand story takes a tragic turn.
Rather than subdue and rule the creation under the Sovereign Creator’s wise authority, the image-bearers were instead tempted to usurp his role and try to go it alone.
Simply put, the vice-regents of creation committed treason against the Sovereign Creator when they rebelled and disobeyed his command.
The results were catastrophic.
The Kingdom Was Subverted
When Adam and Eve rebelled against the Creator’s will they subverted the Kingdom structure God had put in place and thereby abdicated their Authority to the kingdom of darkness.
The Creation Was Perverted
In themselves and their descendants, the Image was broken, though not destroyed.
Their responsibility to be wise and loving managers and rulers were abandoned.
Their capacity to subdue the earth, to bring it into order, and to reign over it was mostly lost, with only echoes of their intended capacity remaining.
Creation Was Subjugated To The Powers of Darkness
The result? Since ”the Crisis,” the Kingdom of darkness has subjugated the earth and its human inhabitants to the destructive powers of fear, greed, hate, selfishness, rage, murder and every type of perversion imaginable.
